Originated in Germany in the early 1900s, advent calendars were used to count the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas (Between November 27th and December 3rd), but now to keep it simple most advent calendars start on December 1st and end on December 24th.
During these 24 days, adults and kids open a new door each day with a surprise behind. Advent calendars are a great way to build up excitement for Christmas while having fun with a little gift.
Nowadays, advent calendars are quite different from the poems, images, or candies that they used to contain. They are more sophisticated with many different types of little gifts such as toys, chocolate, cheese, wine, pieces to build something, beauty products, candles, etc.
With advent calendars the possibilities are endless, and there is always a calendar that will bring you and your loved ones joy during the holiday season!
